Every so often someone will ask me what the largest frame I've worked on is. That's an easy answer...
At
ArtiGras last year, I met a man who was in the market for a framer. (yay) he was working on a tapestry for the
JCC Mandel in Palm Beach Gardens. I was instantly intrigued. He told me it was a big tapestry.
I love a good challenge.
This thing was huge. When I went to take a look at it being created, I was stunned. It was really an incredible thing to see in person.
Below are some photos of the process:

Getting ready to sew it down |

Almost done - my fingers were killing me =) |
|
Thank goodness the frame fits around it... |
|
And yay! The plexiglass fits in the frame! Now to assemble the pieces... |
|
Sealing up the back - yes, that's plywood. The plywood helped to make it a bit more sturdy. |
|
Attaching the plywood to the frame - Vices keep the middle in place while we went around the edge with the screwdriver. |

The final product. |
It was roughly 4'x8' (that's feet not inches).
